In the vast history of film it’s hard to define what the coolest gun is. The rifles from the Alien series are absolutely cool. That flippy shotgun or the thumper grenade launcher that the Terminator uses, also cool. Or what about all the different types of ammunition that Judge Dredd used in his gun called the LawGiver? Oh, and what about Han Solo’s little blaster? Well, I don’t really care for that one, it’s small and the only important thing about it is that there’s a question of if it was the first weapon used in a small conflict. Honestly Star Wars was good for a little while, but they’ve just beat it to death and just haven’t found much interest in it. Sure it’s like the foundation of everyone’s sci-fi childhood…but they didn’t see RoboCop as a child! So the point is that the coolest gun in sci-fi is absolutely the Auto 9 from RoboCop. It’s big, it’s beefy, and it really looks like you could beat someone to death with it if it ran out of ammo.
So why does this matter? Well, because I printed one.
Granted I did find the 3D file on the internet, so I did get a good start. But unfortunately the person who made the file must have had a much larger printer because I had to split mine up into several pieces. In the background of a picture above you can see that I have a Prusa Mini it only has a print bed of about 7 inches.
Unfortunately I haven’t figured out how to upload 3D Studio Max files without WordPress is yelling at me. I did however figure out how to make sure it didn’t argue with .stl files, so above are the seven separate files you need to put together the Auto 9.
So here it is in 3D Studio Max. Honestly I wish I could share the actual file but you’re just going to have to reproduce it and slapped together with the .stl files above. My plan is to eventually redesign the whole thing in an engineering format. Unfortunately this is just in polygons because it had to be converted. That’s all that was offered. You can find this file, but not updated on a lot of the 3D model sites but you’ll have to do clean up. But if you do find something that’s more detailed and cleaner, please let me know! If somebody has already beat me to making this model even better I won’t waste my time!
Your move creep.
