Keychains for a friend

A friend of mine who owns the company One Love Tarantulas has gotten into 3D printing but he’s a pretty busy guy on the weekends and between feeding his vast tarantula collection and working with all of his customers it doesn’t have a whole lot of time. He was looking for a bit of a starter project, just something to get him going so I helped with a keychain design that he could get his feet wet.

Of course designing it is just half the problem, right? The other half is actually getting the result that you’re shooting for from your printer. Personally I use a Prusa Mini Plus and my friend uses a Ender, and there’s always the issue of what slicing program you want to use which again I’m using PrusaSlicer and if I remember right he was trying out Cura.

Not to say there’s going to be many inconsistencies but there are always subtle differences between settings and devices. Different novels, different layer heights, different filaments, and even the different temperatures in your printing area. Not to mention if one of your furry pets decides to jump on the printer or around the area your printer exists.

I was pretty impressed because he came up with the ability to change filament colors rather quickly. Personally everything that I’ve been printing since I got my printer a couple years ago has been one solid color. Then again I’m doing pretty basic designs that don’t call for different backdrop colors like this one.

The final result:

Not too shabby

Swapped colors:

Also not too shabby

Honestly, if you need anything tarantula related the guy who owns One Love Tarantulas can absolutely help you out. Also, he takes some damn good photos and posts them on Instagram so maybe check it out…
