RECOMMENDATIONS

Below are a few of my favorite things (art/music/movies/books) that I recommend with glowing enthusiasm to family, friends, students, peers, and complete strangers.

Most of these things I personally use or I have used in the past. In terms of some of the movies listed or some of the music listed, that’s what made me who I am today. I wouldn’t say my taste is any better than anybody else’s but these pieces are what I’m made up of. So yeah, these are my recommendations:

Terminator 2 is easily the greatest movie ever made. Argue with me all you want, you’re just going to end up wrong. If the earliest movie I remember seeing, and it’s probably the last movie I watched recently. It’s the pinnacle of sci-fi filmmaking. Every movie made before this was just practice.

Oh man, jump in a time machine and get back to me when I was in the 6th grade. I would pummel you in this game. The day I can play this with my mind I will absolutely rain terror on anyone willing to challenge me.

What the hell logo is that you wonder…doesn’t look like anything that Adobe offers these days. Well it’s only the greatest program ever made. Macromedia Flash. This program is the reason I got my first job, the first software I really got super deep into. In fact, I still use it despite Adobe gobbling it up and basically holding it back from any semblance of competition in the market of animation software. But like most abusive relationships, I just keep coming back for more.

3D Studio Max, the cornerstone of my employment. I guess I recommend it now, but I would still recommend Maya first because it’s a little deeper in some areas which helps you make sense of 3D software. But if you just want to get in and get out, this is the program for you.

I remember the last day of 5th grade we watched this movie and it blew my fragile little mind. Ever since then, considering at the time that I’d likely have a job related to computers, this is kind of the reason I do what I do.

Kvelertak is a fantastic metal band. I’m not really sure how to classify them for the music nerds, and I mean that term in a nice way, but they just run the gamut of styles. New singer, old singer, doesn’t matter to me. Still rules.

The Big O. This anime was on when I was younger, although I haven’t kept up with anime as of late, this show does a great job at focusing the early influences of the mech style anime. The story is also excellent.

Iron Reagan is an awesome thrash metal band. I don’t care if you don’t listen to metal, you want to get inspired? This is what you listen to on repeat.
